Ed-A-Mame, Edamame

Edamame are immature soybeans.
Their pods are boiled or steamed and served with salt. The pod itself isn’t eaten but once cooked the little green pea-like beans pop out easily and are absolutely delicious.

They’re great as a snack or with a salad or warmed in a stirfry.
You can find them dried too, added to dried fruit they add a nut-like crunch to trail mixes.
They’re low in calories, about 122 per 100 grams.
Part of the legume family they’re perfect as a filling light meal & can be found fresh in your sushi section of Woolworths or in the frozen vegetables area.  Definitely give this lesser known vegetable a shot.
