This is an easy workout to get your heart going, the sweat dripping and burns 500 calories.
Starting with a 20 minute brisk walk in the treadmill. Set on number 6.
This is a great way to warm up the body, get your chest pumping and slowly ease into your workout. This burns about 150 calories.
Moving into the Cross Trainer, 20 minutes, level 6, using the arm rails.
This is great cardio and this machine can be used for climbing, waking or running. I was doing a bit of everything and trying to keep my strides large.
This will definitely bring you up in calories.
After the cardio I moved onto weights. I went with a 7 kilogram bar bell and did sets of 20 for 10 minutes.
A nice 100 calories burned.
Finally I cooled down for 10 minutes on the treadmill, walking at 5.5 to finish on 538 calories burned.
Calories burned are going to depend on your actual weight. But this gives a good indication of how work out routines can be made up & changed to burn specific calories.
Last month I was lucky enough to WIN a three month membership to Fernwood Fitness thanks to Natvia Natural Sweetener & Fernwood Fitness.
A gorgeous pack of Natvia goodies & a gift certificate from Fernwood arrived in the mail & so I headed to my local gym to redeem.
I’ve never attended a Fernwood before, and have always wanted to, so I was very excited. Fernwood has always sounded like the perfect place to workout & I hear they spoil their members. And they do, I mean, they even have candles in the change rooms; peaceful ambience, provide hair dryers & straighteners and I get offered a hot towel while exercising!
This place is almost like an indoor paradise for ladies. Breakfast is even provided in the morning, one of the selections is Chobani- and I love Chobani!
Everything at Fernwood is neat & clean.
There’s even a crèche for the kiddies, ironing boards, deodorant, hair spray & q tips.
Fernwood offer tons of classes too, including yoga, belly dancing, body step, body balance, pump & aerobics.
The staff are just gorgeous. Very helpful & welcoming & often ask how training is going.
There’s a generous variety of work out equipment & a complementary assessment is provided along with a personal & group training session.
I’m looking forward to my Food Coach session too, which involves meal plans & suggestions for any weight related issues.
A friend of mine luckily attends Fernwood so I have a gym-buddy, which is great!
Some of the things I’m loving most so far is that Fernwood is not jam packed with people, the music isn’t ridiculously loud & the other gym goers are considerate.
There’s an informative Fernwood magazine too, it’s got the usual advertisements but it’s not full of page after page of items for me to buy & the articles and write ups are interesting and actually worth reading.
It’s been a good excuse to stock up on some gym-wear too as I don’t own much in the way of work out clothes. I think Fernwood should start selling their own tees and singlets too.
LiveAShore- available online
Bought the coolest Asics runners from Sportsco too. Loving the comfort & support when I run on the treadmill… lol when I run…I mean walk very fast.
Fernwood Fitness is definitely an excellent choice of gym for Women- sorry boys- and I’d highly recommend visiting your local club & giving it a go.
I’m hoping to get the chance to participate in the new Fernwood Angels programme which is tackling fitness & weightloss from all different angles over a 28 day process. Guys- you can join in on this too- it’s all online!
For any more information on Fernwood visit them in person or

Again a huge thank you to Natvia Natural Sweetener & Fernwood Fitness for my awesome prize!
I’ve made a few bits and pieces the last few days but haven’t had much time to blog.
Here’s a selection of foods I’ve whipped up in a hurry.
This parfait was fun to make with my son & gave me the much needed protein after a mini workout. I’ve been trying to walk daily for about 45 minutes and run small sections of my route.
I used zero fat Chobani Greek yoghurt with blueberries, raspberries, linseed, sunflower & almond mix (lsa) and bee pollen.
All these were just layered in a small glass.
A favourite with my son is Chow Mein.
I made a low fat version of this using Slim Rice ( I had no noodles left in the cupboard!) & it came out filling & yummy!
Again this was a throw together meal.
Wee Man enjoyed cutting up the cabbage & we grated the carrot. I used a lean beef mince for this dish too.
My Low Fat Chow Mein came in at about 150 calories a serve.
I used a McCain recipe base, grated carrot, sliced cabbage, diced onion & lean beef. Once all the meat is cooked & the veggies soft I threw in the warmed slim rice. YUM!
This is my absolute favourite.
I wanted a quick but tasty warm breakfast. This would be suitable as a snack too. Modify it to your taste.
You will need:
3 egg whites & 1 whole egg & a handful of grated cheese.
Whisk the eggs & microwave for one and a half minutes. Sprinkle in the cheese, saving a little for serving, microwave for a further minute and then serve. Sprinkle on the cheese and ENJOY!
This sets you back about 150 calories.
3% carbs, 60% protein & 37% fat.
Love me a pizza!!
This pizza was completely vegan.
I used a vegan pita bread, Cheezly motzerella cheese, spinach, chargrilled vegetables ( zucchini, eggplant, capsicum, olives) & some Tofutti cream cheese instead of a tomato paste base.
The pizza cooked in about 10 minutes on about 180 degrees.
A lovely light meal at about 300 calories.
