It’s going to get to around 40 degrees celsius today but we still wanted to bake.
I tossed around no-bake ideas but we then decided to experiment with using the hot car as an oven.
Guess what?! It worked!
You will need:
3/4 cup mixed grain cereal or muesli
1/2 cup wholemeal flour
1 tablespoon honey
100g chocolate chips
2 tablespoons milk of your choice
Combine all ingredients until well mixed.
There are many substitutions in this recipe- swap out the chips for dried fruit, the flour for coconut flour or the milk for oat or almond milk.
Place spoonfuls of the mix onto a tray with baking paper.
Any cookie recipe would work out in the heat. I just wanted a chunky, chocolate & nut cookie recipe.
Place on car dashboard checking every half hour, careful as the tray gets extremely hot! I left this outside in the sun for a total of 1 hour and 40 minutes.
The baking process is much longer than using a traditional oven, but is a great activity for children and hasn’t cost us anything in electricity.
As we normally would we placed the cookies on a wire rack to cook & then enjoyed. What a great result!
So this was a bit of an experiment & although they didn’t quite turn out as well as I hoped, I know better for the next attempt.
I made them carrot shaped to keep with the healthy theme & they do contain pumpkin.
We had fun with the recipe though & hopefully I will have a fool-proof step-by-step guide soon.
These were also 100% vegan & contained 6 calories & barely any fat.
Wish me luck for my next effort!
